Reflections in Yosemite: puddles of melted snow, the stillness of the Merced, and the glassy surface of a calm Mirror Lake are foundations for capturing this unique perspective of the Park’s granite walls and towering trees. These reflections also bring out what lies beneath and what floats on top of the water. When you look through the water, the fallen leaves, pine needles, granite pebbles, and meadow grasses transform into an otherworldly atmosphere. Depending on the time of year, Yosemite’s reflections can be full of intensely vibrant colors or show icy blue-gray tones.

This series of work came to be during the fall of 2020, when the Valley was nearly empty because of the pandemic. The peacefulness of the Park allowed me to see things in a different way, and gave me pause to search deeper into the reflections that I found. In the many seasons since, I have continued to search for and collect these unique reflections.
